Cyber Fraud in Kolkata: 1930 Reporting, Bank Steps and Evidence
After UPI fraud, phishing, card misuse, account takeover, impersonation or an online investment scam, the first objective is to report quickly without destroying the evidence trail. Immediate reporting does not guarantee recovery, but delay can make transaction tracing and account protection harder.
Legal information notice: This guide is general information. The correct banking, police, platform and court response depends on the transaction trail, account status, complaint stage and current law.
Immediate action sequence
- Contact the bank or payment provider. Report the disputed transaction through the official channel and keep the ticket or complaint number.
- Report financial cyber fraud through 1930. Record the acknowledgement and every transaction ID accurately.
- Use the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. Submit complete facts and preserve the portal acknowledgement.
- Secure access. Change compromised credentials from a safe device, review sessions and contact the relevant platform.
- Preserve evidence before resetting devices. Capture the full communications, URLs, account identifiers and payment trail.
Build a transaction chronology
| Field | What to record |
|---|---|
| Payment | Date, time, amount, transaction reference, bank or wallet and beneficiary |
| Contact | Phone number, email, profile, handle, website, advertisement and communication method |
| Inducement | What was represented, promised or demanded before each payment |
| Discovery | When and how the fraud was recognized |
| Response | Bank complaint, 1930 call, portal report, police contact and platform ticket |
Preserve digital evidence correctly
- Export or retain complete chats rather than isolated screenshots.
- Keep email headers, URLs, caller numbers, UPI IDs, QR images and profile links.
- Download bank statements and official transaction confirmations.
- Record device, SIM and account changes made after discovery.
- Do not contact a suspect through unofficial recovery agents or pay a second amount.
- Do not edit source files or create a reconstructed conversation.
If a bank account is restricted
A freeze or lien may affect a victim, a suspect, a business recipient or an account through which disputed funds passed. Ask the bank for the written reference, authority, police station or agency, date, disputed amount and scope of restriction. Then match the transaction to genuine invoices, orders, delivery records or communications. See the detailed bank-account freeze response guide.
Prepare a focused complaint or representation
State the facts chronologically, identify each payment, attach legible documents and distinguish confirmed facts from suspicion. Use consistent names and transaction references across the bank complaint, portal report, police communication and any legal representation. Ask for an acknowledgement and retain proof of submission.
Official reporting and legal references
The official National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal directs victims of financial cyber fraud to report through 1930. Review the current Information Technology Act, 2000 on India Code together with applicable criminal and procedural law.
